We had been to
mendocino over the labour day weekend. A bunch of us ex-yodlee and yodlee guys went there with our families. The trip was very good. We had rented
a
house there.
The drive to
mendocino was a bit tiresome though, the traffic was heavy on 880,580 and 101. Though we started out at around 10 in the morning it was 5 in the evening by the time we got there.Once we got there, we checked into the house and immediately left for a small beach nearby.

The beach was pretty good, even though the day was windy with high waves, the beach was protected by a small bay and by small cliffs. That pretty much shielded the wind and waves. We played some nice beach volley ball :-) We got back, refreshened, had food and subbu, prasanna and venkat taught me to play poker, i could not learn a lot as pranesh was acting cranky that day. So had to tend to him pretty much the whole night, it was almost 2 in the morning by the time he went to sleep. It was a clear sky that night and i slept near the large windows glazing at the stars, it was awesome.

The next day we took a ride on the
Skunk Train it was an awesome ride, pranesh had fun all the way. It was late afternoon by the time we got back from the train ride. We went to a bunch of beaches near by, but since it was very chilly and windy we could not do much there. We got back had dinner and this time we played
uno, i had played this during my school years as knock knock; it was more or less similar to that. The game was fun everybody except the kids joined the game and it was very entertaining. Venkat was our hero here :-)
The next day we had to return back, so we quickly checked out the
Point Arena Lighthouse and Museum and started our way back home. And sure the ride back was fun, the day before venkat had reminded all of us to check our fuel levels, it slipped my mind with all the packing and stuff. So on our way back we decided to take a short cut through mountain view road to reach 128 at boonville, that was a small road with often onelane traffic at some places. I noticed that i was running out of fuel after we entered the road. I think i had about 1 or 2 gallons left and the nearest gas station was at boonville around 35 miles away. If it were a freeway i could easily make it, however this was a ghat section with lots of twists and turns. That meant we would have to brake a lot and spend lot more fuel than average. To make matters worse, as i was concentrating on getting there quickly; i lost track of the way i was braking. On old habbit from back at home, i started to pump the brakes :-( which meant after sometime the brakes started to loose power and it was hard to get the vechile to stop :-D. So finally i stopped at a place, talked to some people nearby to see if they know of any gas station nearby. they mentioned that we were very near to boonville, also the stop gave time for the braking system to get back to normal. So somehow i managed to get to boonville and refuel :-D. the rest of the ride back was normal :-|
The trip was very refreshing and had a chance to reconnect with old friends. I am looking forward to the next trip.
